Cherie's story
With over three decades of experience leading transformative projects across consulting, corporate, government and not-for-profit sectors, one of the most defining chapters of my career was organising the Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Delivering the worldâs largest event was no small feat. Yet, despite being a team of mostly Olympic rookies, we succeeded beyond expectations and Sydney was declared âthe best Games ever.â Our success came from uniting around a clear purpose, collaborating seamlessly across boundaries and daring to step out of our comfort zones.
This experience shaped my belief that extraordinary outcomes arenât reserved for extraordinary circumstances. They happen when people rally around a bold purpose, embrace challenges with ambition and foster deep collaboration.

The silent crisis at work
As I progressed through my career, I noticed many people were not realising their potential at work, leaving them feeling undervalued and unfulfilled.
I wondered if what I saw was widespread or if things were better elsewhere. So I conducted a research project with 200 leaders around the world to find out.
The findings were alarming. Only one in three professionals felt they were doing their best work. Most leaders and their teams were stifled by constraints such as rigid hierarchies, lack of clear direction and outdated policies.
This reality aligns with Gallupâs much larger studies, revealing that 45% of the global workforce is disengaged, resulting in dire economic, business and personal consequences.
Why traditional workplaces are broken
Despite incredible progress in the evolution of work, some familiar ways of working go back 100 years.
Iâm talking about the way we organise people and work. The classic triangular org chart was created in 1917, when workers were given repetitive tasks to perform by management.
Command-and-control hierarchies, rigid job descriptions and bureaucratic processes stifle innovation and potential.
Every week I hear troubling stories from highly capable, ambitious professionals who are struggling with toxic management styles and outdated ways of working.
It's simply not good enough.
At nextgenify Academy, we believe the future of work demands a shift away from outdated structures. It requires a focus on purpose, empowerment and providing the right conditions for people to thrive.
The future of leadership starts here
At nextgenify Academy, we believe the future belongs to leaders who dare to think differently, work collaboratively and embrace purposeful change. Across the globe, forward-thinking organisations are proving that thriving workplaces are built on clarity, adaptability and meaningful impact.
